Gaithersburg Cabinetry & Millwork Co. was founded 32 years ago in Gaithersburg, Md. and moved to Vint Hill in 1996 to accommodate the company’s growing operations. The Vint Hill location also provides ample access to the company’s Washington, D.C. metropolitan area clients, which include Google’s D.C. headquarters, and many federal and state agencies. 

Founder Stephan Smith opened his doors as a one-person cabinet shop and in 2010 took on three partners Kirk Vetter, Jeff Schrock, and Jim Landoll. In 2014 they doubled the shop size expanding Gaithersburg Cabinetry into a 75,000 square-foot modernized plant, fully outfitted with the latest state-of-the-art manufacturing technology. The staff is up to 65 employees and continues to grow.

The company specializes in commercial interior architectural woodwork, which includes high-end paneling, reception desks and intricate cabinetry and wood trims. A display of their woodwork can be found in The Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington, which was featured on the cover of the most recent issue of Design Solutions. This quarterly magazine for the Architectural Woodwork Institute also awarded Gaithersburg Cabinetry & Millwork Co. its Award of Excellence in 2012.   

Kirk Vetter, executive vice president and general manager, emphasizes that the firm collaborates closely with clients to produce a full complement of high-end work—all of which is manufactured and finished in the Vint Hill location. “We’re most passionate about producing a high-quality project on time, combining all the elements that touch our millwork into our millwork package,” he said. “If you want a desk that has glass, marble and stainless steel elements, we can design with those materials and build you a desk that is made 100% in our plant.”
