Expansion of Vint Hill Parkway Creates Unprecedented Interconnectivity in Vint Hill’s Road System

The Vint Hill road improvements reached a major milestone in the comprehensive road project’s progress this week with the opening of the Vint Hill Parkway expansion. The expansion creates a new pathway through the central area of Vint Hill to Kennedy Drive, connecting with Brookside Parkway.
The expanded parkway now allows direct access for through traffic to and from the eastern and western parts of the property, though work is still being done to complete the final grading, paving and striping. Final surface asphalt and striping will occur later this year. Drivers are advised to proceed with caution while construction continues along the newly opened road. With the addition of sidewalks, pedestrians can soon look forward to the interconnectivity of trails, bike paths and walkways throughout Vint Hill and surrounding neighborhoods.
The new access created with the extension of the parkway is one of many benchmarks of the $11-million infrastructure project. Just weeks before, another milestone was reached when the northern section of Kennedy Road, from Aiken to the waste water treatment plant, was re-opened, completing the first phase in the rehabilitation of Kennedy Road and Finch Lane. Earlier this spring, the roundabout at Vint Hill Parkway and Farm Station Road opened; the newly opened extension of the Vint Hill Parkway is now accessible via the roundabout.
The next phases of road improvements, which began in late July, include the closure of Kennedy Road between the Fauquier County Water and Sanitation Authority office and Aiken and, as of August 28, closure of the Aiken Drive/Kennedy Road intersection. Sigler Road and Farm Station Road serve as detours. Work on this phase is slated to wrap up in late September.
“The parkway expansion is a major achievement for the project team, and for the revitalization of Vint Hill,” said Vint Hill Village, LLC President Ed Moore. “Creating better connectivity and more efficient road systems are part of the many improvements that will help Vint Hill realize its vision. Modern, rehabilitated roads that provide ease in navigation make Vint Hill an excellent focus for smart economic development. Enhancements like the walkways, bike crossings and trail connections bring life and activity from the surrounding neighborhoods into the Vint Hill, enabling the live, work, play community that was meant for Vint Hill.”
